Did you know?
3 in 10 Brits only brush their teeth ONCE a day!
We all know that we should brush our teeth TWICE a day but a YouGov Poll reports that 3 in 10 Brits only brush ONCE a day and 70% of these brush in the morning! Only 29% brush the recommended TWICE daily.
Brushing in the evening is vital as the bacteria in your mouth then have all night to feast on sugars from food and mouth acids and as saliva production is diminished at night- the mouths natural defences are poor.
In addition to this a vast majority of Brits don’t floss either! Only 31% of people say they clean between their teeth on a typical day. Men are less likely to floss than women (25% vs 36%). Sorry gentlemen!
Many studies have shown that electric toothbrushes are 5 times as efficient as a manual toothbrush at removing plaque and are also less destructive to enamel than manual toothbrushes. Most patients that we see who use a manual brush have receding gums and tooth wear from using a poor technique with a manual toothbrush.
Patients not using any floss or interdental aids will often have inflamed gums at the back of the mouth and these areas bleed easily.
